Open Microsoft Word, click on the "File" menu (On some versions: big round button on the top-left corner) and hit "Open". Pick the file you wish to convert and open it.
2. Go to the "File" menu again (reminder: may appear as a big round button) and under "Save As" choose "Word 97-2003 Document". Give your file a name and select where you want to save it (e.g. Desktop), when done hit "Save".
OpenOffice 1. Open the file you wish to convert in OpenOffice Writer.
